My friends and I took a little trip down to Century city two weeks ago to visit The Annenberg Space for Photography, a venue dedicated to both digital and print photography. Their current exhibit, Pictures of the Year International, features photographs reflecting the important events and issues that shaped our world in 2009. POYi is a prestigious competition, in which images are chosen from 45,000 entries submitted from photographers all across the globe. Among them, top journalistic photographers are recognized for their long-term work.
I've always had a strong inclination toward journalistic photography, especially journalistic portraits. I love the expression of human emotions portrayed through film, whether still or moving. The documentary and collection of photographs we viewed that day focused on themes such as human conflict, our current economic status, cultural differences, corruption and tragedy; capturing the poignant moments of our day-to-day life and the beauty reflecting our humanity.

I admire these bold, influential storytellers and the risk they take in investigating these modern issues that are significant and consequential in our society that demand attention but are often ignored. Still, they continue to share other's tales and I only hope they will persist.
If you're around the area, do not miss the opportunity to view this exhibit. It ends Oct 10, this sunday! I apologize for the late notice. I wasn't aware of the date.
